InRed X Tsumori Chisato

I picked up this magazine on my recent trip to Asia. this magazine came with this super cute Tsumori Chisato bag. This design is also seen on the xmas collection of Shu X Tsumori Chisato. The bag itself is very sturdy and cute. I used throughout my trip in Asia and also washed it in the washing machine and dryer without any issues. It is a very good buy for about 10 bucks. This magazine also featured cute Tsumori Chisato watches. I am not a watch person but i really want to get my hand on those babys. hehe

Majolica Majorca v. Maybelline, the Competition is On

Today we'll be taking a look at two drugstore mascaras - one a classic American girl and the other a straight-up Japanese FOB. Their more commonly known identities? The Maybelline Colossal Volume Express waterproof and the Majolica Majorca Lash Gorgeous Wing.

The MJ was picked up by Ying during her recent trip to Taiwan. I did some research on this mascara and this version came out in Fall 2008 I believe; I can never keep track of MJ mascara releases as their names/looks are all just too similar, not to mention they release too many mascaras. This version's got the intricate gold designs on the body of the tube and on the cap with a black base -- a standard for MJ.

The Maybelline was purchased by myself just a few weeks ago from RiteAid for less than 5 bucks. This one's in a big, fat, bright yellow tube, fairly dull packaging I would say.. but not surprising for American drugstore makeup.

Let's look at their brushes. Pictures speak louder than words:
[I always feel like mascara brushes are sized to be a certain portion of the eye.. hence western mascaras typically have these huge brushes, or is it just the ones i've tried recently..]

Both mascaras are claimed to be "waterproof". MJ is a fiber-based lengthening mascara while Maybelline, as its name suggests, is supposed to provide volume.

Maybelline
This is the first western Mascara I've encountered that has superb curling power. The Dior, Lancome, Clinique, Cover Girl, and Smashbox mascaras I've tried before all weighed my lashes down a few minutes or hours after application. This Maybelline one makes my lashes stay curled all day long and gives a decent dose of both volume and length. The only problem is that the mascara flakes a little at the end of the day (~8 hrs) and gives you a little bit of a racoon eye. =(....

Majolica Majorca
The MJ Lash Gorgeous Wings has great curling power as well. This is the strength of most MJ mascaras in general. The Lash Gorgeous Wing is fiber-based and claims to lengthen your lashes. The fiber in the MJ is quite short compared to what I'm used to in Active Girl. Hence, the results are more natural... no spidey-legged lashes after application. This mascara lengthens but unfortunately has absolutely no volume. I have absolutely no flaking issues with MJ but at the same time MJ alone delivers less impact, especially when used on the lower lashes.

Both mascaras are good buys as they have awesome curling powers which is the number one thing I look for. The Maybelline gives you a little drama while MJ delivers a natural look. I personally prefer Maybelline a little more as my sparse lashes could really use some volume. I think this Maybelline mascara is really making me hopeful in western brands mascara.. hopefully there will be more western mascaras suitable for Asian lashes to come!

Magnets can be cute too =D

I have just realized that the number of cute magnets family on my fridge has been increasing. Let's hear their stories

Family 1:

once upon a time, there is a bunny rabbit with one teeth sticking out living in this happy place,

His favorite food are milk and bread.. poor them...

Milk and bread kept on trying to escape, so the bunny hired mean one tooth bear to guard the milk and bread....

So they lived not so happily ever after together until another family moved in.

Their neighbor is this red face mean looking guy. He always has his knife with him to protect his daughter. His daughter is this super kawaii little girl. we wonder how this ugly red face guy have such a cute little daughter.. what Can I say, the world is not fair..lol

one day, the daughter met this young monk. they 2 hit it right off and fell in love.

of course the over protective father is not down with this!!! he kept on chasing after the young monk and trying to scare him away

As you can see, my fridge is quite a messy place with all those drama.. sigh...>-<

Prettia Bubble Hair Dye in Milk Tea Brown

I've been wanting to dye my hair for some time already but never found myself with 4+ hours to spare in a salon on a weekend. As an alternate solution, I decided to experience DIY hair dying. I ordered the Prettia Bubble Hair Dye in milk tea brown.

The box comes with two bottles of dye. You mix the two dye solutions to activate the solution, squeeze the bottle to foam the dye, i.e. bubble dye, then apply to hair. The dye is initially a light yellow solution but turns to a nasty blue after a few minutes. I was a little concerned about putting blue dye on my hair.. thinking, is this nasty thing really going to dye my virgin black hair brown?

The dye also immediately stiffens your hair and gives off a strong chemical smell. I definitely had to turn the bathroom fan on while I was applying the dye or else I probably would've suffocated in the odor. The entire application process took me about 15 minutes. After application, I left it on for 45 minutes (instructions says 20-30min), then washed off. Here's the results:

The top of my head is a pretty hazel brown, while my hair ends are more or less an espresso color. I think the uneven color is probably due to #1) my hair being really long (down to chest area) which makes application more difficult, and #2) poor application skills on my part. =p The fact that my hair got really stiff during the dying process (caused by bleaching action?) also made it difficult to distribute the dye evenly.
All in all i'm still pretty happy with the product and I'm really liking the color. I will definitely have to try again in a month or two and hopefully I can get a more even color. I also expect the color to be lighter (and more true to the box) next time since I'll have a lighter hair color to begin with. <3
